As per the latest news, National Medical Commission has changed the regulations for Foreign Medical Graduates. According to Section 57 of the National Medical Commission Act, 2019 the eligibility criteria is different from last year. The eligibility criteria for licensing and practice in India has been changed and it said that no person will be allowed to obtain a license if he/she is not eligible with the criteria.
What Is Foreign Medical Graduates? Â
Foreign Medical Graduates are those students who have completed their medical graduation from outside India. As the students who study outside the medical studies is different from India as they different standard of education, studying pattern, and evaluation methods. The universities of MBBS in Abroad has their certification programs or recognised by WHO or any other medical foundations. But they have a desire to practise in India so they need to have the NMC certification for practising in India.
There are following regulations has been discussed by National Medical Commission are:
1.Sort title and Commencement: This regulation is called Foreign Medical Graduate Regulations, 2021.
2.Foreign Medical Graduates & Primary Medical Qualification: These are the qualifications that have been acquired from outside India. As they enroll as a medical practitioner in the country and the MBBS curriculum prescribed by NMC. The candidate needs to follow the curriculum for the syllabus through the course.
3.Eligibility Criteria For Licensing To Practice In India: Students must qualify the eligibility criteria to practice in India are as follows:
3. a) Eligibility Criteria Before Entry Into The Medical Colleges: It is for the students who qualified intermediate before joining the medical course are:
Student needs to complete 12 years of schooling from the recognised institute which should be Central/ State/ UT Government.
Students need to qualify for the minimum marks which is being notified before the entrance examination.
The student should have science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Biology as the main subjects.
Students need to qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Undergraduates (NEET-UG Exam) before taking admission in Foreign Medical Graduates.
3. b) Eligibility Requirments For Person Intending To Practise In India: It is also for the students who qualified MBBS degree from outside India.
It for those students who have studied senior secondary or undergraduate medical education from outside India. It is mandatory for those students to need to have the successful completion of the course with Physics, Chemistry, Biology provided in the university.
Student must undergo 54 months of theoretical and practical taring while undergoing the program and also 12 months of internship/ clinical clerkship after qualification of the course from the country.
Primary qualification should be done in the subjects like Community Medicine, General Medicine, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, General Surgery, Anaesthesia, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, PM&R, Casualty service, lab service, Dermatology, Tuberculosis, Respiratory Medicine, Radiodiagnosis, Forensic Medicine, Blood Bank and Transfusion Service.
While the internship has been done medical training outside India or in the country in which the course has pursued.
Studnet is eligible to be Registered/ Licensed to practice in a country where the MBBS is equivalent medical degree and has been awarded by foreign medical institutions. The registration in that country should be valid for at least 10 years.
